Formula 1 2018 tyre compounds. One thing to get your head around is the tyre compounds with no fewer than seven slick options available to teams this year. Pirelli could increase its range of formula 1 tyre compounds to six in 2018 but will not make a decision until the end of this year. The italian supplier says the compounds in the 2018 rainbow range with be considerably softer compared to 2017.
The new range consists of faster tyres that should lead to even harder and more spectacular racing in 2018 compounds and constructions have been redesigned for each tyre in keeping with pirellis philosophy of renewing the range every year since the italian firm returned to formula 1 in 2011. Pirelli are expanding their compound range for next year with the addition of a hypersoft tyre at one end and a superhard at the other though neither of these will. The purpose of the tyre determines the compound of the rubber to be used.
The 2018 formula 1 season features plenty of new regulations and rules. Whereas the latter has a useful life of up to 80000 km 50000 miles the tyres used in formula one are built to last less than one race distance. Formula one tyres bear only a superficial resemblance to a normal road tyre.
Formula 1 tyre supplier pirelli has revealed the estimated laptime differences between the new 2018 compounds in pre season testing at barcelona.
